Day 176: Update

  • Started doing reformer jumps (wohoo!) — first double leg, and then today, small single-legs
  • Bosu squats
  • Elliptical!
  • Lateral moving
  • “Agility” — aka walking dressage

Also had a followup with Dr. S on Monday where he didn’t even comment on flexion (unlike 5-ish weeks ago) and he said I could start some lateral movements and get into jogging.

Driving has been fine. Probably started about 5-6 weeks post-op. Actually, last Uber trip was 7/12.

Day 139: PT today

PT said I was going to be sore…

  • Massage, hamstring curls
  • Ultrasound
  • Quad sets, lifts
  • Bike
  • Calf stretch
  • Hamstring machine (weights)
  • Squat into heel raises
  • Balance board
  • Ball glute lifts
  • Ball bridge
  • Reformer
  • Gait (arches falling)
  • Stretching
  • Ice

During, my mcl area hurt. By this afternoon, my inner thighs are so sore. I guess sore is good?! So much for biking a few miles today.

Day 109: ROM!

Got on the stationary bike today!! That means I have about 110° range of motion (ROM). I think it’s helping that IV  been walking without the brace on while I’m at home for the last couple of days. And I’m practicing walking with a neutral pelvis. All in all, feeling pretty good.

Day 106: achy

Patella has shifted upward and have to start manipulating it down. That’s probably why it feels so “stuck” and achy. Today is the first time I’ve felt, hm, maybe I should take some Advil. But no matter, it’s an awesome day because it’s my birthday! Happy birthday to me! “I’m so happy!”

Day 95: [slightly scary] adventure!

After being cooped up for two weeks and on the eve of going back to work, we decided to go on an adventure. On to Rockport, MA we went!

Halibut Point State Park was beautiful, if a little scary “hiking” with my brace. Half of the time I spent on D’s back. Which made it oh so much more hilarious. AND, we saw a fellow crutch hiker — a young guy who was a month out from breaking his tibia!

After our mini hike, we ventured into town to Roy Moore’s Lobster Co.

A nice Sunday afternoon jaunt and we were home by 6:00!

Day 91: first post-op PT

First day back at PT for an evaluation. Didn’t do much besides talk about what was in store and get some exercises to do at home:

  1. Quad sets, of course
  2. Heel slides
  3. Hanging long-arc lifts
  4. Resistance calf (ankle) pumps

Good news: one crutch for Paul’s wedding!

Bad news: no dancing at Steve and Holly’s wedding. That’s a huge bummer.

Day 90: first post-op & celebrate!

Why yes, I will have a glass (or two…) of bubbles to celebrate no more locked brace!

Saw Dr. S today and he said:

  • Brace unlocked, starting at ~30° and increase as tolerated
  • No brace to sleep (woot!!)
  • Stitches out
  • PT, PT, PT

First PT is scheduled for tomorrow…

Recently discovered hiding bruise

Fresh from stitches removal

Celebrating!

Look at that bend! (~40°)

Incisions 1. Drill, 2./3. Scopes, 4. String tightening (Direction: tibia to femur)

Day 89: post-op week

So, basically my knee hardly feels like it had surgery at all. I took painkillers for about four days and weaned off. While there are some aches, throbs, and shooting pains, it really hasn’t been that bad. Unless I push too hard and get woozy. The most difficult, frustrating part has been being locked at 0°. It’s like dragging around dead weight. For a few days, my upper quad / groin area was so overworked from supporting my leg that it was super painful.

But all in all, I’ve mostly been reading and sleeping (and healing!) a lot. I see Dr. S tomorrow and then go to my first post-op PT appointment on Wednesday so we’ll see what the game plan is!
